The chances of making a hole in one on the golf course is anywhere from 3,000 – 12,000 to 1. Maybe you know from experience, or can just image, that the excitement level when the golf ball rolls into the hole on your first swing is HIGH.

That’s the level of excitement we want for your little-one’s first birthday!

They deserve a celebration to remember (just like that hole in one), making this “Hole in One” first birthday party theme “par for the course.”

We kept the decor on the lighter, simpler side for this one, as we feel you don’t need much to get this theme across – only a few well-chosen items. This will save you some time, and your wallet will thank us!

DIY White Toothpick Flags

What You’ll Need:

  • Toothpicks (as many as you want flags, we would suggest 10-20 depending on the amount of food you have)
  • White Paper (can be regular, or card stock if you have it)
  • A Ruler
  • A pencil or pen
  • Scissors
  • Glue or double-sided tape

Instructions:

  1. Lay your paper in the landscape orientation.
  2. Using your ruler and writing utensil, make tick marks every one inch on each side of the paper.
  3. Connect the tick marks by drawing a straight line from left to right. You will end of with 8 lines. The bottom of the page will have 1/2 inch strip that will not be used to make your flags.
  4. Now turn the paper in the portrait orientation, and repeat steps 2 and 3, except you will make tick marks every 3 inches on each side of the paper. You will end up with 3 lines. There will be a similar 2 inch strip at the bottom that will not be used to make your flags.
  5. You should now have a paper with 24 even rectangles, all 1in x 3in. Use your scissors to carefully cut along the lines to eventually have 24 separate rectangles. You will have several rectangles of odd sizes, those can be trashed.
  6. Prep your 24 rectangles by folding them each in half to make a smaller 1in x 1.5in rectangle.
  7. Take your toothpicks, and place them in the crease of the rectangles, aligning the top of toothpick just under the top of the rectangle (one toothpick per rectangle). Use either glue or double-sided tape to wrap the rectangles around the toothpick and secure the paper together.

Your finished product should look very similar (if not exactly) like the toothpicks above! You can get as creative as you want, with different colored paper, or writing custom messages on the flags. Place them in your cupcakes, cakes, fruit, etc.

Now while those hole-in-one odds above can look pretty daunting, don’t let hosting your Hole in One Birthday Party be that way too!

Cheers!
